Cows receive vaccinations to prevent illnesses, just like people. Cows also receive pedicures to keep their feet healthy. Cows live in clean, dry, comfortable barns. This keeps them happy and healthy so they can produce nutritiou...

Monday, January 17, 2011 Good Morning Monday.  Hello to another beautiful week.  As the daily routine moves along with the feeding and watering, Jeff already ran into a problem.  A tire blew out on the trailer. That is a few hundred dollar cost that wasn’t expected.  He called a local place to take in the tire and see if it could be repaired or to purchase a new one.  Since Toni did not have to go...

Monday, January 10, 2010 Took the truck I just purchased for inspection. Went to license bureau to get the title transferred and buy temporary license. Grain prices quit sliding downward for now. Tuesday, January 11, 2011 Got the inspection completed on the truck. Prices on crops started moving back up… anticipation of the upcoming crop report and the troubles in Australia with flooding are the re...

Did you know that dairy cows are milked 2-3 times a day? We only milk our cows 2 times daily. Each cow can produce on an average of 2,200 gallons of milk each year or about 7 gallons or more each day! Monday, January 3, 2011 Monday morning was a challenge for all of us to get into the school mood after being off of school for 2 weeks. Luke, our son, was up all night with an ear infection. Lunches ...

Monday, January 3, 2011 Monday started like last Monday, flu still hanging on. Made a trip to the doctor's office, changed medicine. Checked grain prices on the over night, some profit taking on the board of trades. The day trade saw more weakness with corn, soybeans and wheat. Tuesday, January 4, 2011  More profit taking on Chicago board of trade as prices slide a little lower. Made some calls ab...

Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 Lauren took off to Columbus to work at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation office.  She’ll be back on Wednesday.  We sure miss her help on the farm when she’s gone, but her enthusiasm and willingness to learn about the business side of agriculture is vital.  In the meantime, everyone pitches in to work that much harder to fill in when someone is not here.  The “I’ll sleep when the...

Saturday, January 1, 2011 Hello. I am Herb's wife Sarah, and it can get very confusing at times having the same name as my mother-in-law… but it's a great name. Herb and I have six children, ages 12 years old down to 3 years old. Besides the milking and farming, we raise market goats for pets and for 4-H projects to take to the county fairs.
