Columbiana County Farm Bureau Announces 2014 Scholarship Winners
Alana Chronister is the daughter of David and Sally Chronister of Hanoverton. Alana graduated from Catholic Central High School and plans to attend Ohio State University as an Environment and Natural Resource Scholar and to major in Environment, Economy, Development and Sustainability.
Alana’s current honors and activities include National Honors Society, Catholic Daughters Club, Swim Team, and Academic and Athletic letters. She also serves on the Columbiana County Jr. Fair Board, has been a counselor for the county at Camp Whitewood, and is an active member of the 4-H Scouts group in Lisbon. Alana is very involved in her community and church and she frequently volunteers for Columbiana County Special Olympics.
Elaina Zehentbauer is the daughter of Richard and Jennifer Zehentbauer of Hanoverton. Elaina graduated from United Local and will attend Ohio State University where she plans to major in Chemical Engineering.
Elaina’s honors and activities during high school include National Honor’s Society (Vice President), Band Council, Student Council Representative, Yearbook Staff, Newspaper Staff, Varsity Soccer and Cross County. She was also the Homecoming Queen and Columbiana County Dairy Princess. Elaina works on her family farm and was the Junior Fairboard secretary. She also received awards in Academic Excellence and Distinguished Honor Roll (4 years).
James Louis Kataro, II is the son of James and Amy Kataro of Salem. James graduated from United Local High School and will be attending Malone University in the fall where he plans on obtaining a bachelor’s degree and majoring in both Accounting and Business. He also plans on running on Malone University’s Cross Country Team and Track and Field Team. After graduating he is hoping to work in an accounting firm helping those in agricultural business with ways to have cost effective farms.
James’ honors and activities during high school include many projects in 4-H, where he also served as President, Vice President, and Health Reporter for Circle 62 4-H Club. He was on the Varsity Cross County and Track Team, United Envirothon Team, and Cutting Edge Relay for Life. He served as Treasurer on United FFA (participated in Parliamentary Procedure Team, Poultry Judging, and earned the State FFA Degree his Junior Year). James was also on the Columbiana County Jr. Fairboard, and was named Columbiana County Fair Royal Court in 2012-2013.
Michael J. Estock is the son of Mike and Theresa Estock of Beloit. Michael currently attends Ohio State University and is majoring in Animal Sciences / Animal Biosciences Specialization / Veterinary Medicine Pre Professional. Michael’s current honors and activities include Delta Theta Sigma Agricultural Fraternity, Shades of Animal Sciences, Pre-Veterinary Medical Association Club, Towers Agricultural Honorary, and Dean’s List (Spring and Fall 2013).
