The Gallia County Farm Bureau Board of Trustees recently had the pleasure of hosting approximately 340 students at their 12th Annual Agriculture Awareness Day.  This year the number of students was nearly double the amount that they had the previous year.  All schools in Gallia County were able to come this year.  In previous years, the county schools were unable to attend because of funding issues.  This year Ag Day Coordinator Katie Shoemaker worked diligently to get corporate sponsors to fund this trip for the students.  She was able to obtain two corporate sponsorships one from AEP and one from Holzer Health System.  With this money, the farm bureau was able to pay or the buses to get the students to the event.

Along with getting the students to the event, there is no cost to the student to attend.  The student also receives a free t-shirt with the winning design submitted from one Gallia County Student.  This years winner was Hannah Long from Washington Elementary.

The students visited 14 different stations where they learned about numerous things including: Beef-Jeff Moore, OSU Extension, Pork-Jake Bodimer,Farm Bureau, Bees-Fred Burdell, Germ Free-Holzer Health System, Dangerous Look-A-Likes-Katie Shoemaker and Jackie Graham,Farm Bureau, Dairy-Laural Valley Creamery, Pelts and Furs-Erica Preston,SWCD, 4-H-Tracey Winters, AEP-Charlene Hemphill, Feeds and Seeds-Brian Unroe,Feed Stop, Progress of Plants-Cathy Patrick,Bob's Market and Greenhouse, Horses-Nancy Vanco, Hayride-Paul Shoemaker, Farm Bureau, Petting Zoo-Jarrod Ferguson,Gallipolis FFA.
