2014 Hancock County Farm Bureau Adopted Policy Resolutions

LOCAL

  • Blanchard River.  We support the efforts to reduce flooding problems in the Blanchard River Watershed as long as agriculture and landowners rights are protected.
  • Blanchard River.  We encourage the continued education of our members and non-members on the flooding issues, solutions and impacts on the agricultural community of the Blanchard River.
  • Blanchard River.  We encourage all members to become engaged and voice their concerns, ideas and questions and become involved in solving the flooding problems of the Blanchard River.
  • Blanchard River.  We support efforts of the cleaning of the Blanchard River, encouraging the EPA to allow proper maintenance of the river.
  • Soil & Water/Extension.  We urge and appreciate the continued support of our soil & water and extension.
  • Animal Care.  We support recognizing that animals are personal property and we oppose legislation and/or ballot initiatives that, unless clear abuse is evident, restricts the private ownership or use of animals or that inhibits free trade of any animal provide it meets Ohio Department of Agriculture testing and import requirements.  The Ohio Department of Agriculture should administer any animal welfare laws at the state level.
  • CAUV.  We encourage that the CAUV formula be thoroughly reviewed to ensure that data used in the calculation is recent, relevant and reflective of Ohio’s agriculture economy.
  • Hancock County Landfill.  We need to continue our present flow control regulations on landfills, thus allowing local authorities to set rates that are affordable.
  • Caution…Farm Machinery signs.  We will continue to work with our county engineer in erecting these signs throughout the county.

STATE

  • Blanchard River.  We support the efforts to reduce flooding problems in the Blanchard River Watershed as long as agriculture and landowners rights are protected.
  • Blanchard River.  We encourage the continued education of our members and non-members on the flooding issues, solutions and impacts on the agricultural community of the Blanchard River.
  • Blanchard River.  We encourage all members to become engaged and voice their concerns, ideas and questions and become involved in solving the flooding problems of the Blanchard River.
  • Blanchard River.  We support efforts of the cleaning of the Blanchard River, encouraging the EPA to allow proper maintenance of the river.
  • Conservancy District Directors.  We support changing the Ohio Revised Code from the current appointment process to an electoral process in choosing directors of a conservancy district.
  • Maumee Conservancy District.  We support the Maumee Conservancy District that is already in place that has the experience and management skills.
  • Animal Care.  We support recognizing that animals are personal property and we oppose legislation and/or ballot initiatives that, unless clear abuse is evident, restricts the private ownership or use of animals or that inhibits free trade of any animal provide it meets Ohio Department of Agriculture testing and import requirements.  The Ohio Department of Agriculture should administer any animal welfare laws at the state level.
  • Local Government Funds.  We support the continuation of the local government funds.
  • Hancock County Landfill.  We need to continue our present flow control regulations on landfills, thus allowing local authorities to set rates that are affordable.

FEDERAL

  • EPA.  We oppose any increased funding and empowerment to the EPA at the expense of decreased funding to agriculture.
  • Blanchard River.  We support efforts of the cleaning of the Blanchard River, encouraging the EPA to allow proper maintenance of the river.
  • Farm Bill.  We support the renaming of the Farm Bill to more accurately reflect the majority of where the funding goes.
