Canning and Preserving Classes -Oct 5 next class
Still time to register for the next canning classes!
If you have ever wanted to know how to preserve nature’s bounty but are not sure how to start, you are in luck!
The Belmont and Monroe County Farm Bureau in conjunction with Ohio State University Extension Monroe County will be conducting canning and food preservation classes.The classes will be held at the fellowship building of the Beallsville Church of Christ, 52125 Sunsbury Township Rd 134, Beallsville. There will be a $5 fee, but Farm Bureau members are free.
The first class covered jam and jelly making and preserving fruit by canning, drying or freezing. Participants made the jam or jelly and took home a jar to enjoy.
The second class covered pressure canning and preservation of vegetables. Participants will make salsa and have some to take home and enjoy.
This last class will be a little different. It will be held in October and feature a wild game dinner and information on freezing, canning and drying meats. Recipes for wild game will be provided.
Classes are limited to 24 people, so pre-registration is recommended by calling the Farm Bureau office at 740-425-3681.There will be canning manuals available from the Extension office for purchase. For more information, please contact 740-472-0810.
