Whether owning a patio downtown, maybe a small plot of land in rural Ohio or anywhere in between, through Ohio Farm Bureau’s Grow and Know program, animal lovers, foodies, gardeners and more are invited to get in touch with their inner farmer, make the most of their property and experience Ohio agriculture up-close.

This year, Lucas County Farm Bureau is hosting a Grow and Know event, “Farm to Plate: A Food Dialogue” Sept. 9 in the Toledo Zoo’s Nairobi Pavilion from 5 pm to 10 pm The event features an agricultural fair showcasing Lucas County and Northwest Ohio producers and businesses. Enjoy a locally produced dinner prepared by the award-winning catering department at the Toledo Zoo. The highlight of the evening will be the panel discussion focusing on something that affects us all: our food source. Hear from experts regarding topics important to the community including water quality, livestock production and urban agriculture.

Our menu for Farm to Plate: A Food Dialogue was planned by Lucas County Farm Bureau board member Wade Smith and Chef Sam from The Toledo Zoo. We are excited to share our selection for the evening:

-Choice of: 10 oz. Strip Steak with Herb Butter or Billionaire's Pork Tenderloin wrapped in bacon.

-Side dishes to include: Chef's Choice Salad, Fresh Corn Polenta and Ratatouille, Fresh Rolls with butter (vegetables from local producers Shared Legacy Farms and Bench Farms)

-Dessert: Apple Pie ala Mode (with apples from locally grown orchards)

-Premium Cash Bar: Featuring Majestic Oak Winery of Neapolis, Ohio and Maumee Bay Brewery

Cost for the evening is $15 for Farm Bureau members, $20 for nonmembers and $10 for students. To register please send a check payable to the Lucas County Farm Bureau or contact our office at 419-849-2128 to pay by credit card. When making your reservation we will need to know if your dinner selection(s) will be the New York Strip Steak Steak, Billionaires Pork Tenderloin wrapped in Bacon or the Vegetarian Option.

We look forward to seeing you Sept. 9!
