Richland and Crawford Farm Bureau

Agricultural Water Resource Management Program

Water quality and algal blooms are THE environmental topics for the Ohio farming community. Algal blooms in the Western Lake Erie basin are a greater public concern every year and 2013 looks to be another significant year.  Grand Lake-St. Mary’s has come to be a bad word in some circles.  Excess nitrogen is causing anoxic conditions in the Gulf of Mexico which drains the Ohio River Valley.  Farmers across the state are taking notice and stepping up to meet public demands for action.

Richland and Crawford Farm Bureaus, along with the Ohio Livestock Coalition, are sponsoring a half day program available to our farming community which will provide the latest water resource information as they relate to the day to day activities on the farm.

Friday, June 21 from 8:30 am to 1 p.m. at the Crestline Banquet Hall

- RSVP requested - Lunch Provided

Free for Active Farm Bureau Members

$10 for nonmembers

Experts from Ohio State, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Natural Resource Conservation Service and Ohio Farm Bureau will present the most current science and information to help you understand, adjust and continue to protect Ohio’s water resources.

What is the science behind phosphorus pollution and algal blooms?  What do we know about the impact agriculture has on our water ways?  What are other farmers doing to protect water quality?  Are there programs out there to provide technical and financial support for actions I can take to improve a valuable public resource?  These and many other questions will be answered at this valuable program.

RSVP to richland@ofbf.org or crawford@ofbf.org or call 1.800.327.6055 by noon Monday, June 17. Space is limited, so RSVP today to secure your seat.
