Get Ready for FRESH Local Foods!

Published Feb. 14, 2014 | Discuss this article on Facebook

I can't wait for this winter to end and to be able to eat garden fresh foods again! To get you ready there are several great programs coming up in the next month or so. Local programs hosted by NECIC and/or our Raising Richland garden network partners:

* Feb. 20:  Growing Raspberries and Blackberries with IPM - View Extension Webinar at NECIC

* Feb. 25:  Kick Off Your Garden Season with Seed Starting Program by Eric Larson (flyer attached)

* March 13:  Raising Richland Community Garden Summit – Help Spread the Word (flyer attached)

Also I am excited to confirm that Christie Welch, Farmers' Market Specialist with the Ohio State University Extension, will be presenting a workshop on "Best Practices for Ohio Farmers' Markets" on Wednesday, March 5 from 6 pm to 9 pm. This will be held at the Longview Center, 1495 W. Longview Avenue in Mansfield. The workshop is provided at no cost. A workshop flyer is attached, and highlights the topics that will be covered. There will be lots of information available, a chance to network, and also an opportunity to be part of promotions planned this summer for our Richland County Markets. Please invite any local growers, vendors and market managers you may know to be part of this evening workshop.

In addition, Richland County Farm Bureau is working with Richland Community Development Group’s Agriculture and Local Foods Sector on issues such as improving local food access, establishing a regional food hub, and training for area farmers. Contribute to the dialogue by finding out more and help to build our regional food system by visiting us online at ohiofoodhub.info.

The vision of the Ag/Local Foods sector is to create a sustainable local food system in Richland County, through community education, an increase in direct-to-market opportunities for area agricultural producers and through increased local food access opportunities for area consumers.
