With the Jackson-Vinton County Farm Bureau Hog Wild Fundraiser in full swing, the public has decided who the People’s Choice Pig of Jackson County is for 2012. The winning pig will be officially announced Saturday on the Apple Festival’s main stage at 4:45 p.m.

Congratulations to all of the pigs that entered the contest. A total of 50 painted pigs made it back to the Farm Bureau to have their People’s Choice votes counted and to vie for the Top Hog position. The public chose the “People’s Choice Pig” by placing spare change and bills in the piggy bank that they felt should be the People’s Choice Pig.

“We are pleased that every participant did a fantastic job decorating their pigs,” said Shane Meldick, Jackson-Vinton County Farm Bureau president. "There were so many excellent pigs this year and the number of participants were up again this year. Each year we get amazed at how creative these businesses can be. We had a lot of new businesses this year painting pigs for the first time. We hope everyone will stop by and look at the pigs at the Farm Bureau office, 231 Broadway Street."

The top 15 hogs are displayed in the Farm Bureau office windows and will be voted on during the Apple Festival. The community is invited to stop by the Farm Bureau office (8 a.m -4 .pm., M-F) during the Apple Festival (Sept. 17-Sept. 21) to vote with spare change and choose Jackson’s Top Hog. You can also stop in to any of these businesses and vote at their locations until noon Friday, Sept. 21.
