CRAWFORD COUNTY COUPLE WINS I AM FARM BUREAU CONTEST
Rose and Greg Hartschuh of Crawford County have been selected as winners of Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s I Am Farm Bureau contest. The grain and dairy farming couple won the contest by receiving the most online votes among five finalists on the I am Farm Bureau contest website.
Ohio Farm Bureau members were asked to post up to three photos in the contest and answer questions about who they are and how they are linked to agriculture. Visitors to the contest site browsed member stories and photos and voted for their favorites.
The Hartschuhs milk approximately 160 registered Holsteins, produce grain and are the fourth generation to work on the farm. Rose Hartschuh is also an agriculture education teacher.
The couple’s entry details how they make time for each other while managing the farm.
"Dairy farming is definitely a 24/7/365 kind of job,” Rose wrote in the entry. “There are always cows to feed, in the spring, there are crops to plant, and there are crops to harvest in the fall. When Greg is busy in the fields, I often ride in the tractor with him. It's a good learning experience for me, and it also allows us to spend time together during those long hours he is working.”
The Hartschuhs receive a $250 pre-paid Nationwide Bank VISA gift card and will be featured in upcoming Ohio Farm Bureau promotions and communications.
“I am Farm Bureau was an exciting contest because it really illustrated the diversity of Farm Bureau membership,” said Janet Cassidy, senior director of marketing communications. “The entries included grain and livestock farmers, gardeners, urban farmers, home cooks and farmers market shoppers.”
Runners-up in the contest included Cristen Bartus of Lucas County, Scott and Tracie Isler of Marion County, Nick Rizzo of Montgomery County and Renae Scheiderer of Monroe County. Each runner up receives a $100 pre-paid Nationwide Bank VISA gift card, and will be featured in upcoming Ohio Farm Bureau communications.
