Dorman named Director of Food Programs for Center for Food and Animal Issues
For Immediate Release
July 23, 2009
As director of food programs, Dorman will develop and execute programs throughout the state that help advocate for accepted agriculture and food processing practices. Among her primary duties are assisting county Farm Bureaus in local advocacy programs, developing and enhancing relationships with other organizations, governmental agencies, cooperatives and other community groups across Ohio, and conducting seminars and educational activities for Farm Bureau members as needed.
Dorman most recently served three years as the assistant state veterinarian at the Ohio Department of Agriculture, where she started as a veterinary medical officer in 2001. As assistant state veterinarian, Dorman filled in for the state veterinarian in his absence, had oversight of field staff and operations in ODA’s Division of Animal Industry, planned, organized, administered and monitored state animal disease control programs and more. Other past experiences have had her working directly with other food animal veterinarians and producers, as well as 4-H and FFA members.
"Dr. Dorman's extensive experience, knowledge and familiarity with modern food production and in administering professional care for the health and well-being of livestock will factor greatly into the center’s success,” said Mike Bumgarner, vice president of OFBF’s Center for Food and Animal Issues.
A native of Findlay, Dorman did her undergraduate study in animal science and earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Ohio State University. She lives on a farm in Croton with her husband Brad and three daughters, Olivia, Cora and Darla.
The Center for Food and Animal issues was created in May to engage farmers, consumers and others who have connections to animals in a public dialog over the proper role of animals in society, and to advance their shared values. For more information, visit www.ofbf.org.
