Yochums Named OFBF Excellence in Agriculture Finalist

COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) Ė Chip and Shannon Yochum of Leesburg have been named as finalists for Ohio Farm Bureau Federationís (OFBF) Excellence in Agriculture Award, which recognizes successful people age 35 or younger who are involved in farming but whose primary occupations are not farming or owning an agricultural business.

The award is based on their involvement in agriculture and participation in Farm Bureau and other community organizations. The winner will be named during OFBFís annual meeting Dec. 2 to 4 in Cincinnati.

The Yochums live on a small farm where they raise show cattle and help on Chipís parentsí livestock and grain farm. Chip is also an auctioneer and enjoys helping farmers get the highest price for the items they may be selling. Shannon is a teacher and also helps with advertising and bookkeeping for the farmís livestock sales. They are very active in Farm Bureau, recently serving as past vice-chairs of the OFBF Young Ag Professionals Advisory Team. The couple has two children.

The winner will receive an expense paid trip to the American Farm Bureau annual meeting in Seattle in January to represent Ohio in the national competition. The state winner will also receive a $1,000 technology package from OFBF, a John Deere Gator sponsored by Farm Credit Services of Mid America and $500 cash from Dodge Trucks. All state finalists also receive commemorative chime clocks from OFBF.
