COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) – The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission's (MORPC) Central Ohio Local Food Assessment and Plan is the subject of this weekend's Town Hall Ohio.

The assessment includes a comprehensive strategy to transition the 12-county MORPC area to a more locally based food supply.  Through implementation of the plan, MORPC hopes to decrease the consumption of petroleum in food transportation, open market opportunities for local farmers and increase the availability of fresh produce to central Ohioans.

Jerry Tinianow, director of MORPC's Center for Energy and Environment, and Eric Phillips, secretary of MORPC and executive secretary of the Union County Economic Development Partnership, discuss the initiative and how they believe it will benefit farmers and consumers in central Ohio. Also joining the program is Keith Stimpert, senior vice president of public policy for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.

Town Hall Ohio is a weekly public affairs discussion program produced by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation with the financial support of Nationwide Insurance.  Programs are available for download at www.townhallohio.org.
