The following may be attributed to John C. “Jack” Fisher, executive vice president, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. Fisher is currently vice chairman of the Ohio State University board of trustees and served on the search committee charged with identifying the new leader for the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

"Ohio Farm Bureau is very happy to welcome Dr. McPheron back to Ohio and we congratulate him on his important new leadership role.

“Bruce brings a unique set of qualifications to his new position. His Ohio roots are deep; he was raised here, graduated from Ohio State and served as an Ohio county Extension agent. His experience in higher education engaged him in research, teaching, Extension and the highest levels of administration. He has proven abilities in connecting with students, faculty and staff as well as colleagues across campus and throughout the nation. He has built relationships with college stakeholders including farmers, consumers, the business community and public officials at the local, state and national level. The college, university and other citizens of Ohio will be well served by Dr. McPheron.

“He has accepted an important role at a time of great challenge and opportunity for the university and college. Traditional funding sources are diminishing as new funding models are only beginning to develop. Social and environmental demands must be balanced with the need to economically feed the world. Bruce’s track record of creativity and innovation will serve him well as he positions the college for future successes.

“Ohio State has a great history as a leader in the nation’s land grant system. But we should strive to enhance our position in terms of student success, faculty distinction, world-class facilities and public-private partnerships. I have every confidence Bruce McPheron can lead this pursuit of excellence, and Ohio Farm Bureau will be proud to play a supportive role.”
