Young Ag Professionals To Hold Summer Event At Mohican State Park

COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF)–Young adults involved in or interested in food and farming are invited to attend a Summer Reach Out event June 28 at Mohican State Park. Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Agricultural Professionals (YAP) is hosting the event. Registration deadline is May 23.
YAP county leaders, along with help from Ohio Farm Bureau and county Farm Bureau staff, help plan and organize events that reach out to young professionals and the community.
Three different tours will be offered at the event:
Tour 1 begins with a tour of Malabar Farm State Park, travels to Rus-Men Farms where high quality meats are produced and marketed directly to consumers and ends at Pleiades Farm, which produces maple products.
Tour 2 begins at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster with participants touring the campus and getting updates on the latest research, then moves on to Bristol Dairy Farms, which is currently milking 2,200 cows a day, and wraps up at Troutman Vineyards for wine tasting.
Tour 3 is family focused. It begins at Malabar Farm State Park with a wagon tour of the farmstead and then moves on to Mohican State Park where participants can take part in family friendly activities such as the park’s pool, lake and nature trails or activities provided by a local FFA chapter such as movies and games.
The finals of Ohio Farm Bureau’s Discussion Meet -- a contest that tests participants’ subject knowledge, problem solving abilities and personal and small group communication skills -- will be held before the tours. After the tours, a social hour and buffet dinner will take place on the patio of the park lodge.
The cost of Summer Reach Out is $20 per adult and $5 per child and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Register through county Farm Bureau offices. For more information, see http://ofb.ag/yapbrochure.
