COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) - The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) is now inviting fans, friends and followers to connect with the state’s largest general farm organization through the use of social media.

On May 1, OFBF officially launched its presence on a number of popular Internet social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Social media is a set of free online tools that allow the building of relationships between individuals sharing an interest and passion in the same topics.

Fans, friends and followers of Ohio Farm Bureau’s social media accounts can find out what the organization is doing on a daily basis while connecting with other food/agricultural enthusiasts, Farm Bureau members, staff and more. Users may also connect with OFBF’s print, radio and video productions to provide story ideas, serve as possible sources and get a behind-the scenes look at each.

OFBF’s accounts provide the foremost agriculture-related topics of the day, updates on events, member benefits, and contests and promotions only available to OFBF’s social media friends, who are also invited to comment, share photos, video and other Web content.

“Ohio Farm Bureau’s mission is to forge a partnership between farmers and consumers,” said OFBF Senior Vice President of Communications Kurt Ely. “Through social media, we are enabling direct connections and conversations among consumers, farmers and Farm Bureau in ways that are engaging, informative, responsive and beneficial to all. Social media also allows us to share Ohio Farm Bureau with those unfamiliar with the organization and to serve as an open and trusted resource for agriculture-related content and discussions.”

OFBF also plans to launch its redesigned Web site, www.ofbf.org, in the near future with a number of social features including personal accounts, commenting, RSS feeds and the ability to share content across a number of social networks.
