COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) –Matthew Boyert of Medina County was one of 20 selected individuals to recently graduate from a new, intensive leadership program designed to develop advocates for the agriculture industry. Developed by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, the AgriPOWER Institute was launched last summer to help farmers and agribusiness professionals gain influence over public policy issues that impact their businesses.

During the past year, participants engaged high-level government officials, activists, media insiders and farm leaders on pressing local, state and national issues. Among the topics were government spending, regulations, the environment, animal welfare, international trade, state education reform and public relations. Prior to graduation, participants developed goals for utilizing their training to effectively impact public policy.

“We’re proud of and grateful to our first group of AgriPower graduates,” said OFBF Executive Vice President Jack Fisher. “There are lots of people agriculture needs to talk to – consumers, voters, elected officials – so having well trained, motivated advocates will be good for our industry and everyone we work with.”

Boyert is a manager in his family’s greenhouse and farming operation. His participation in the program is sponsored by OFBF.
