Heimerls named 2011 Ohio Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farmers

Matt and Rachel Heimerl of Johnstown have been named winners of Ohio Farm Bureau Federation's 2011 Outstanding Young Farmer Award. The Heimerls share their farm story in this video.

Matt and Rachel Heimerl of Johnstown have been named winners of Ohio Farm Bureau Federationís (OFBF) 2011 Outstanding Young Farmer Award. The award recognizes successful young farmers, age 35 or younger for achievements in the business of farming and leadership in the agricultural community.

Both graduates of Ohio State University, the Heimerls raise hogs and manage their own trucking business and feed mill on their Licking County farm.

The couple is also heavily involved in Farm Bureau and leadership activities. They have served as chairs of the Ohio Farm Bureau Young Agricultural Professionals Advisory Team, are both alumni of OFBFís AgriPOWER Institute leadership program, the Dupont Young Leaders program, the American and Ohio Soybean Associations and the Pork Producers Council.

The Heimerls also serve as agriculture spokespersons, and are active as 4-H advisers.

The couple will compete in the national competition in January at American Farm Bureau Federationís annual meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.
