Farmers and other property owners can learn how to preserve their land at an informational meeting in Sharon Township.

The meeting is co-sponsored by the nonprofit Western Reserve Land Conservancy and the Medina County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Andy McDowell, vice president of western operations for the Land Conservancy, will discuss the merits of conservation easements, the differences between donated and purchased easements and the workings of the Clean Ohio Agricultural Easement Purchase Program.  Landowners will also learn how they may receive income- and estate-tax benefits for donated easements.

Western Reserve Land Conservancy has preserved 558 properties and 41,954 acres in northern Ohio, including 175 private farms and nearly 24,000 acres of farmland.  In addition, the Land Conservancy’s Thriving Communities Institute works statewide to help revitalize Ohio’s urban 

The Medina County Soil and Water Conservation District provides the community with education, guidance and technical assistance that promotes the wise use of its soil and water resources.  It is headed by District Manager Jeff Van Loon.
