    Commercial hatcheries in the 19 state weekly program set 200 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 5/12/12.

    United States egg production totaled 7.86 billion during March 2012, up slightly from last year. All layers in the United States on April 1, 2012 totaled 341 million, down slightly from last year.

    Milk production in 23 major States during February totaled 15.2 billion pounds, up 8.3 percent from February 2011.

  • USDA Chickens and Eggs Report Mar 1, 2012

    United States egg production totaled 7.83 billion during January 2012, down slightly from last year. The number of layers during January 2012 averaged 338 million, down 1 percent from last year. All layers in the United States on Feb. 1, 2012 totaled 337 million, down 1 percent from last year.

    The number of farms in the United States in 2011 is estimated at 2.2 million. The total amount of land in farms is 917 million acres, with the average farm size at 420 acres.

  • USDA Sheep and Goats Report Jan 31, 2012

    Released Jan. 27, 2012. The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announces all sheep and lamb inventory in the United States on Jan. 1, 2012, was down 2 percent from 2011. Breeding sheep inventory was down 3 percent.

    According to the latest USDA reports, milk production in 23 major states during December totaled 15.4 billion pounds, up 2.7 percent from December 2010.

  • USDA Winter Wheat Seeding Report 1-12-12 Jan 16, 2012

    The planted area for winter wheat for harvest in 2012 is estimated at 41.9 million acres, up 3 percent from 2011 and 12 percent above 2010.

Ohio Weekly Crop Progress Report

The weekly crop progress report includes degree days, temperature, precipitation, crop planting progress, crop development and harvesting progress. This report is issued weekly by the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

    Temperatures and precipitation for the state were higher than normal, but field conditions were still slightly dryer than usual for this time of the year.

    Field activities for the week include application of fertilizers and manure, tilling ground, and planting corn and soybeans. In addition, small patches of corn and soybeans left standing from 2011 were harvested.  Corn planting for grain is 34 percent complete. Seven percent of soybeans were planted.

    Very few acres of corn were harvested due to excessive wet weather. Most farmers are now waiting for the ground to freeze in order to harvest the rest of the crop.

    Weather conditions have been favorable and farmers are harvesting corn and soybeans as well as planting wheat. Corn harvest currently at 34 percent of grain and 96 percent for silage. Soybean harvest stands at 67 percent, and wheat planted is at 83 percent

    Rain has once again delayed the corn and soybean harvest and winter wheat planting. Corn maturity rate is 84% with harvest at 18% complete. Soybeans harvest is 51% completed and winter wheat planting is 67% completed.

    Fields are drying out from last week's rain; producers are harvesting corn and soybean crops and planting winter wheat. Other field activities include manure application, light tillage, and moving and baling hay.

    Fields are wet from continuing rains, the majority of harvest and planting of winter wheat have been put on hold until fields dry out. Winter wheat is one percent planted at this time, 26 percent behind last year.
