Two County Farm Bureaus recognized for excellent programs
Hamilton and Wayne County Farm Bureaus are two of the 25 county Farm Bureaus nationwide recognized by the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) for innovative program ideas in this year’s County Activities of Excellence (CAE) Awards program.
The winners will be highlighted during AFBF’s 94th Annual Meeting, Jan. 13-16, in Nashville, Tenn.
The CAE program acknowledges and shares successful county Farm Bureau programs and activities focused on Farm Bureau’s priority issues: Education and Ag Promotion; Member Services; Public Relations and Information; Leadership Development; and Policy Implementation.
“Winners will display their programs at the AFBF annual meeting trade show, allowing Farm Bureau members from across the country to learn about successful programs and activities that promote agriculture within farming communities,” said AFBF President Bob Stallman.
“Local Farm Bureau programs are at the core of what makes a county Farm Bureau strong. There is great pride in county programing, especially when it receives national recognition,” said Ohio Farm Bureau Federation Senior Director of Field Operations Brian Peach.
The mission of Hamilton County Farm Bureau’s program, Making Farm Bureau Relevant to the Equine Community, was to make the county Farm Bureau more relevant to its urban demographic by engaging the equine community. Hamilton County achieved this by increasing Farm Bureau exposure at equine events such as the local equine tack exchange, actively recruiting equine owners to become Farm Bureau members, supporting equine clubs and working with the county park district to improve the equine trails located within the county park district.

Wayne County Farm Bureau’s Animal Agriculture Educational Kiosks were designed to reach a broader audience attending the Wayne County Fair. Five kiosks were installed near high traffic areas around the dairy, beef cattle, sheep, swine and poultry barns. Each kiosk included a television and a daily DVD featuring a local farm family and ts animals, a schedule of daily fair events, another informative video from the state species organization and screens advising fairgoers of the benefits of Farm Bureau membership.
