Scholarship opportunities and more are featured in this month's round-up.

The calendar has turned to 2013, which means there’s a whole new year of Farm Bureau fun, activities and opportunities popping up across the state. The winter season usually means there are a lot of meetings for farmers to attend, and this month’s round-up shows just that. There are also plenty of scholarship opportunities for Ohio students, county Farm Bureau membership kick-offs to attend and much, much more.

Here’s a look at what county Farm Bureaus are sharing on their blogs this month. Click on the links associated with each topic for more details.

 

STATEWIDE OPPORTUNITIES

Feb. 6 - Members-only Online Oil and Gas Leasing Info Meeting -  All Ohio Farm Bureau members are invited to participate in a statewide online oil and gas informational meeting and Q&A session hosted by Ohio Farm Bureau’s Dale Arnold. Get complete details on this session and register to participate here.

March 22-23 - Ohio Farm Bureau Young Ag Professionals Leadership Conference - Farm Bureau members ages 18-35 are invited to this two-day conference featuring at least 12 breakout sessions, plenty of networking and fun. Jan. 17 - Franklin County Farm Bureau helps farmers transition their farm to the next generation at this “Land as your legacy” meeting.

Jan. 18 - Madison County Farm Bureau hosts a Land as Your Legacy meeting, helping farmers transition the farm from one generation to the next in London. RSVP required.

Jan. 22 - Hardin County’s Conservation Tillage Club hosts a breakfast meeting featuring a Grain Marketing Outlook.

Jan. 24 - Oil and Gas leasing information session to be held as part of Clark County FArm Bureau membership kick-off event

Jan. 30 - Union County Farm Bureau hosts this “Land as your Legacy” meeting to help farmers develop a plan of action for when it’s time to transition the farm to the next generation. RSVP required.

Jan. 31 - Defiance, Fulton, Henry and Williams County Farm Bureau members are invited to aspecial oil and gas leasing issues briefing, featuring Ohio Farm Bureau’s Dale Arnold.

Feb. 4 - Perry County Farm Bureau hosts a soup cook-off. Just bring some soup to be a part of it!

Feb. 5 - Auglaize, Logan, Mercer and Shelby County Farm Bureaus invite members to a“Transitional Agriculture & Informational Meeting” sponsored by Farm Credit. Featured sessions include: Beginning Farming; Nutrient Management; Transitioning Real Estate; Legislative updates and more.

Feb. 11 - Join Butler County Farm Bureau for a special Grow & Know event sharing how to beat the winter blues with Italian Farm House Soup and 60-Minute Yeast Rolls

Feb. 23 - Hamilton and Montgomery County Farm Bureaus invite young farmers to hit the slopes with them as they enjoy an evening of snow tubing at Perfect North Slopes

Feb. 28 - Make sure you have a say in what happens to your farm after you are gone. It’s important to have a transition plan in place. Hancock, Hardin, Seneca and Wyandot County Farm Bureaus invite members to this “Land as your Legacy” seminar to learn the processes that can help eliminate undue stress, delays and expenses. RSVP required.

March 10 - Cuyahoga County Farm Bureau’s Equine Advisory Committee hosts its annual Used Tack Sale.

March 12 - Lucas County Farm Bureau Workers’ Compensation Safety meeting.

March 14 - Butler & Hamilton County Farm Bureau Workers’ Compensation Safety Meeting

March 19 - Ottawa, Sandusky and Wood County Farm Bureau Workers’ Compensation Safety Meeting

March 21 - Montgomery and Preble County Workers Compensation Safety Meeting

 

COUNTY KICKOFFS SHOW SPIRIT, VALUE OF FARM BUREAU MEMBERSHIP

If you’ve never been to a county Farm Bureau membership kick-off event, there are plenty of opportunities to do so throughout the coming weeks. In addition to sharing the benefits and details of Farm Bureau membership, these meetings are often creative, entertaining and just great times for socializing, eating and maybe even winning a nice prize or two.

Jan. 19 - Ashland County Farm Bureau membership breakfast kick-starts fast-paced one-day membership challenge. RSVP required.

Jan. 19 - Auglaize and Mercer County Farm Bureaus hosts their 2013 membership kick-off, where they’ll also be giving away a pair of Ohio State Men’s Basketball tickets! RSVP required.

Jan. 19 - Seneca County Farm Bureau’s membership kickoff includes a breakfast and an introduction to “Community Councils” -- a new twist on the traditional Advisory Council program.

Jan. 22 - Clinton County Farm Bureau membership kick-off

Jan. 22 - Defiance, Fulton, Henry and Williams County Farm Bureaus host their 2013membership kick-off meeting, along with a special EASE (Engage, Acknowledge, Share, Earn trust) workshop for members looking to respond to consumers’ questions about agriculture.

Jan. 22 - Geauga County Farm Bureau to hold membership kick-off meeting at Chardon Brew Works.

Jan. 22 - Join Hocking County Farm Bureau for a pizza cook-off during its membership kick-off event. Prizes awarded for creativity and best pizzas. RSVP required.

Jan. 22 - Muskingum County Farm Bureau hosts county wildlife officer Jeff Berry at its annual membership kick-off event.

Feb. 10 - It’s a Pickaway County Farm Bureau Family Reunion! Free food, music, dancing and family fun are all a part of this membership kick-off event. RSVP required.

Athens, Gallia, Lawrence, Jackson-Vinton, Pike and Scioto County Farm Bureau partners with Sam’s Club to offer rewards for those renewing their Farm Bureau memberships.

Logan County Farm Bureau is accepting nominations for its Farm Family of the Yearthrough Feb. 1.

Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky and Wood County Farm Bureaus remind members to include all their dependents on their Farm Bureau membership records. There are many opportunities for members of all ages. Make sure all your family members are included!
