Buckeye Farm News
A series of activities and contests for Young Agricultural Professionals are coming up, and the first deadline is this month.
The first event is the Summer Retreat on July 11 at the Columbus Zoo. The registration deadline is June 24. The event costs $5 per single, $10 per couple and $15 per immediate family and includes zoo admission, lunch, agriculture-related discussions and a special animal presentation for youngsters.
The deadline to register for Discussion Meet is July 10. Discussion Meet, which gives participants experience in leading a group discussion, will be held Aug. 10 during Leadership Conference. This year’s themes are “How can agricultural producers reach out to the public to gain their support on important issues impacting agriculture” and “The U.S. has the safest food supply in the world; how do farmers continue to improve the public’s perception of their products.”
Sept. 10 is the deadline for both the Outstanding Young Farmer and Excellence in Agriculture contests.
Outstanding Young Farmer is for an individual or couple who receive most of their income from the farm. Excellence in Agriculture is for an individual or couple who are nonproduction agriculturalists that promote the ag industry through their daily work routine. Those interested in competing in any of the activities or contests should contact their county Farm Bureau office or get registration forms and more details on the competitions and prizes at www.ofbf.org.
