You win with people in AgriPOWER
by Callie Wells
“You win with people.” As a double graduate of Ohio State University I am quite familiar with, and fond of, this Woody Hayes quote. As a participant in AgriPOWER Class V, I was reminded of just how much “You win with people.”
My year in the AgriPOWER program was full of many great experiences. Visiting large hog and egg farms, traveling to D.C. and a weekend at The Wilds are just a few highlights, but the thread that tied everything together was experiencing it with my classmates. Traveling around the state, and to D.C., with 20 others in careers ranging from full-time farmer to attorney really enhanced my learning experience.
As an AgriPOWER participant, I learned a lot about many facets of the industry, but most importantly I made 20 new friends, expanded my professional network and learned from their perspectives on the world. We learned about ourselves and each other as leaders, and how to work together using our differing leadership styles. Trying to understand how others view the world can be challenging, but it makes for a better learning experience.
The weekend sessions were quite a large time commitment, but the quality of the experience and the people made up for that. I highly encourage anyone looking to further their knowledge and experience in food, farming, leadership, public policy and advocacy to apply for Class VI.
