Ohio Farm Bureau is launching a pilot program this year to quantify the conversations its members have about building trust in food, farming and agriculture. “Project 155” will kick off in conjunction with “Conversation with EASE” training sessions this winter at various county Farm Bureau meetings.

Ohio Farm Bureau's “Ohio Farm and Country,” television show, airing weekly on ONN-TV, has been awarded a coveted national Telly Award for agricultural issues-based television programming. The show is produced in conjunction with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and presented by Nationwide Insurance.
Ohio's constitution requires the state to pass a balanced budget. To do that, lawmakers are going to have to fill an $8.4 billion hole in the next fiscal cycle.

The Senate Agriculture Committee and the House Committee on Agriculture have both marked up and reported out Farm Bills this week. Both bills passed respective committees. It is anticipated that the Senate bill will have floor consideration by the full Senate next week. The House has not yet scheduled the bill for a floor vote but the ultimate deadline is September 30 when the current 9-month extension of the 2008 Farm Bill expires.
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is extending the filing date for group rating programs. As a result, OFBF members may submit AC-3 authorizations for group rating programs until April 1.
Redoutey Logging, Scioto County, recently accepted the 2009 National Outstanding Logger of the Year award.

Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Daniels and other agriculture leaders celebrated Ohio Agriculture Day Thursday with visits to three Ohio agribusinesses: Blue Grass Farms, Central Ohio Logistics Center, and Feed the World, LLC. All three play a large role in Ohio’s global agriculture reach.

Three state agencies have jointly launched the Ohio Clean Lakes Initiative, a program geared to improve water quality and reduce harmful algal blooms across Ohio, with emphasis in the Western Basin of Lake Erie. As part of a joint press conference between the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Department of Agriculture and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the directors of each spoke about the initiative.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture has the expertise needed to administer parts of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program, Ohio Farm Bureau’s Director of Legislative Relations Chris Henney recently told Ohio lawmakers.
