The U.S. House this month passed a bill that would help increase the number of veterinarians working in livestock and food animal practices and in key public health fields. The American Farm Bureau Federation is urging the Senate to follow suit.

Passed in the Senate Wednesday, a bill to help facilitate the transfer of the NPDES program for concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) and storm water associated with construction activity to ODA from Ohio EPA is now awaiting the governor’s signature.

House Bill (HB) 473, a bill proposing rules on how much water farms and factories in Ohio can draw from Lake Erie, passed the Ohio House of Representatives April 25 with a vote of 59-38.

Gov. Ted Strickland has signed Senate Bill 131, sponsored by Sens. Karen Gillmor, R-Tiffin, and Capri Cafaro, D-Hubbard, which will establish a bio-products preferred purchasing program, making Ohio the first state in the country with such a program in statute.
