When Iím assigned to visit a farm and capture a story about Ohio agriculture, I find things work best when I generally stay out of the way. Thatís especially true when the story is about rounding up a few thousand-pound animals that were intentionally set loose.

Kasich proposes $100 million for Clean Ohio Fund

Gov. John Kasich has recommended the Clean Ohio Fund receive $100 million to fund the preservation of farmlands and open spaces and improve outdoor recreational opportunities. The proposal is part of the $2.386 billion capital budget bill that is usually enacted every two years to provide funds for improving the stateís educational and public-service infrastructure.

Kasich signs workable water quality bill into law

Amended substitute Senate Bill 1 addresses Ohio Farm Bureauís top priority by giving farmers time to request assistance. Farm Bureau successfully argued for provisions that allow farmers to apply for reasonable deadline extensions while theyíre working to come into compliance.

The bill allows for common agronomic practices that are proven effective for water quality and workable for farmers.

Learning where to find the answers

What a whirlwind session! We learned about so many aspects of agriculture in such a short period of time. Everything from social media to touring Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) and had good conversations about GMOs, migrant farm workers and water quality. These are all issues that we in the agriculture industry face on a regular basis and we need to be able to support each other using our own talents and strengths.
