Delegates gather to set national Farm Bureau policies at the 2009 annual meeting
For seven months, Marion County Farm Bureau leaders and others will be documenting the growth of the corn and soybean crops through its "Follow Farming" social media campaign. Along the way, they'll show the process from seed to harvest to market.
Each year, U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner holds a farm forum in his southwest Ohio district to discuss issues facing American agriculture. OFBF President Brent Porteus highlighted some of those issues for attendees during this year’s event. Below are excerpts from Porteus’ speech.

Ohio Farm Bureau members from across the state will develop the organization's positions on farm and rural issues during the 91st annual meeting to be held Dec. 1 to 3 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus.

Last summer, Ohio Farm Bureau reached gain for its 41st consecutive year under the new full-year membership campaign approach. The new campaign style allows volunteers to work on selling memberships as they have time.

Farm Bureau members are asked to remind lawmakers of the direct link between water quality and the amount of state money invested in OSU Extension, ATI and OARDC, the Ohio Sea Grant program, the National Center of Water Quality Research at Heidelberg University, Ohio Department of Agriculture and Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Soil and Water Resources.
Total donations to the most significant domestic and international animal-rights groups reached nearly $330 million in 2007.
With an anticipated 140,000 visitors to the Farm Science Review, Ohio Farm Bureau hopes to draw not only new OFBF members but supporters for creating the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board.

The American Farm Bureau Federation’s Board of Directors has appointed three new members to serve on the AFBF General Counsel Advisory Committee through 2011. AFBF has a distinguished history of selective participation in litigation matters that implement and advance Farm Bureau’s policies.

Ohio Farm Bureau found a new way to forge a partnership between farmers and consumers in 2009 by incorporating social media into its Web presence.
