The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has proposed several changes to Ohio hunting regulations including a plan to replace deer zones with county bag limits. Other proposals include an extension of deer hunting hours and a new deer muzzleloader season.

The National Association of Wheat Growers announced its choices for the 2012 Wheat Advocate Award, an award given annually to members of Congress who have demonstrated support for the wheat industry above and beyond the norm. Two of the recipients of the award are Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown and Rep. Bob Gibbs.

The new year brought victories on state and federal estate taxes that have been the focus of Ohio Farm Bureau members’ grassroots efforts for more than two decades. On Jan. 1, Ohio’s estate tax ended, and Farm Bureau-supported federal estate taxes exemptions became permanent.

A federal court judge in Maryland ruled in late December in favor of Perdue Farms’ poultry grower Hudson Farms in a case filed against them by the Waterkeeper Alliance, which failed to prove the poultry growers violated the Clean Water Act by polluting the Pocomoke River.
