 Biotechnology
Biotechnology is a major issue for both consumers and
agricultural producers. The so-called "Frankenfoods" image versus
the actual role of biotechnology in food production is grossly
misunderstood. Find out more in our Biotechnology section.
Food Safety
FQPA Implementation & Crop Protectant Products
The Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) substantially changed
the way crop protection chemicals are evaluated scientifically for
health effects. The Environmental Protection Agency has the task of
re-evaluating more than 9,000 pesticide uses for safety within 10
years, with the first 3,000, including most organophosphate and
carbamate insecticides, subject to an August 1999 deadline. The
Ohio Farm Bureau and the American Farm Bureau are working to ensure
fair and scientifically based implementation of FQPA.
