Popcorn Acres are now part of the corn base

According to the USDA FSA disaster assistance website ( http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov/#) Frequently Asked Question "Will popcorn be eligible for the direct and counter-cyclical program?", Yes, popcorn acres will be considered as part of a farm's corn base.

The Agricultural Assistance Act of 2003 requires that popcorn be considered as acreage planted to, or prevented from being planted to, corn for purposes of establishing a corn base under the direct and counter-cyclical program. If a farm program payment yield for corn is otherwise established for a farm that grows corn, the same yield will be used for popcorn acreage. For other farms, the farm program payment yield for popcorn shall be established by the Secretary on a fair and equitable basis to reflect the farm program payment yields for corn on similar farms in the area. These provisions take effect on October 1, 2003.
