County Farm Bureau presidents talk ag on Capitol Hill

County Farm Bureau presidents visit Rep. Jim Jordan's Capitol Hill office. Ohio’s county Farm Bureau presidents were among the first to hear about the latest extension of the 2002 Farm Bill during Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s (OFBF) 62nd County Presidents Trip to Washington, D.C. last week.

The group heard directly from House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., during a forum with a group of Ohio’s congressional representatives that the bill has been extended through April 18, allowing Congress extra time to work out differences with the White House on its funding.

During a visit to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Chuck Conner told the presidents that at least a one-year extension of the current bill would be needed if a compromise cannot be reached.

In Capitol Hill offices, the county presidents met with their representatives to encourage action on issues important to Ohio agriculture.

The group also toured American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) Washington headquarters and visited the Egyptian, Japanese and Ukrainian embassies.
