U.S. broadband forums to kick-off in Columbus

Published on 04/15/2008

Columbus will be the first stop in a series of regional forums known as the Connect! Tour, hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and national non-profit Connected Nation to promote broadband connectivity, and its benefits to education, healthcare, agriculture, business and the U.S. economy.

“We’re very excited to see the Connect Ohio initiative get off the ground with this official launch,” said Ohio Farm Bureau Director of Policy Development Chris Henney, who will participate in a panel discussion addressing the benefits of broadband connectivity and the applications it enables.

Connect Ohio is a public-private partnership with a goal of making broadband available and affordable to every Ohioan by working with local communities and providers. Its first task will be to develop a map of where broadband is available in the state and where there are gaps in access, said Henney, who also serves on the Ohio Broadband Council, developed by Gov. Ted Strickland in 2007.

Strickland, a proponent of extending broadband access to all Ohioans, will be the event’s keynote speaker.

The tour will kick-off on Thursday, April 24, at the Vern Riffe Center, 77 South High Street, Columbus, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
