2008 Award for Excellence in Crop Advising for CCAsCounty Farm Bureaus, OSU Extension offices and Soil and Water offices will have a great opportunity to recognize Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs) for their outstanding work with agricultural producers. The Excellence in Crop Advising Award recognizes Certified Crop Advisers who have performed superior service for farmer clients in nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management and crop production. The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and the Ohio CCA Program will recognize one outstanding CCA. Ohio's winner will receive a plaque, recognition in publications and a $500 cash award! Certificates will be provided, to county offices that participate in the Excellence in Crop Advising Awards program, to allow them to recognize nominees from their county. The purpose of these awards is to increase the awareness that farmers and their service people strive to do their best in not only making economically sound cropping decisions but also ones that are environmentally sound. With the increasing farm size, complexity of management options and increasingly complex regulations, we foresee farmers relying more and more on the advice of specialists who are Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs). Ohio has established its own CCA program, and there are now over 600 Certified Crop Advisers across the state. To nurture this link between CCAs and farmers, we have established a state Excellence in Crop Advising Award. This award will be presented to the CCA winner at the OSU Farm Science Review in London, Ohio. Click here for a nomination form and description (PDF) of the program. Please feel free to distribute this information to any members who might be using the services of a worthy Certified Crop Adviser. In order to qualify for the award, at least one of the nominators must be a Farm Bureau member. The deadline for nominations to OFBF is June 27, 2008. Send nominations to ATTN: Jennifer Baldwin, OFBF, P.O. Box 182383, Columbus, OH 43218-2383. Questions should be directed to Jennifer at 614-246-8289.
