Power Briefing connects legislators, candidates with ag issues

Sen. Steve Stivers, R-Columbus, participated in discussions on agriculture issues during the Ag Power Briefing Tuesday. COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) - Nearly 100 current legislators and candidates for Ohio’s General Assembly left Tuesday’s Ag Power Briefing in Columbus better suited to address their constituents’ agricultural concerns.

The briefing, a cooperative effort of the Ohio Livestock Coalition (OLC) and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF), connected the politicians with experts on food and fuel, animal care and the economic impact of agriculture to the state.

“I’ve been to enough public meetings that I know questions are out there,” said OLC Executive Director Sandy Kuhn. “You need to have some answers for your constituents,” she told those in attendance.

In addition to hearing from OLC members from numerous livestock and commodity organizations, each individual received a binder to take with them containing contact information of OLC members, Ag Facts about Ohio, their congressional district and counties in their district.

The briefing consisted of a repeated morning and afternoon session, meant to be flexible to busy political schedules. In addition to OLC briefings, OFBF provided attendees with insight on how the organization’s policies are developed and how it works to educate members on which political candidates are best for agriculture.
