In an effort to let the public know about the different kinds of agriculture in Trumbull County, the Trumbull County Farm Bureau holds an annual media farm tour. This year reporters from the Tribune Chronicle visited five farms in the county:

• Glen-Art Farm in Newton Falls – This 240-acre family dairy is owned by Arthur Smallsreed and sons.

• Rock Bottom Farm in Middlefield – This farm is owned by Jonathan Ford. He raises strawberries, blueberries and day lilies and has a greenhouse.

• Eli D.L. Farm in Middlefield – Miriam Miller and family served the guests a typical Amish wedding feast.

• South Farm Horse Farm in Middlefield – Jerry Goldberg raises and boards pleasure horses and conducts many horse events at his farm.

• Middlefield Original Cheese Cooperative Cheese House – Here several kinds of cheese are made from about 320 Amish farms in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Nearly all Amish dairy farms in Trumbull County sell their milk to this cooperative.

Trumbull County Farm Bureau also made the reporters aware of major issues facing Trumbull County. They were told about everything from low net farm incomes to regulation laws to biotechnology and free trade.

"The response from the reporters was fantastic. There were several reporters who had never been on a farm before, and they learned so much," Danielle Kobsik, OFBF organization director for Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga and Trumbull counties, said. "We have a wonderful relationship with the Tribune and have more positive coverage on anything farm-related."
