Randy Gardner is a first-term Republican. He is the first Senate freshman in more than a century to hold a majority leadership position. He serves on the Education; Health, Human Services and Aging; Insurance, Commerce and Labor; and the Rules committees.

He first joined the General Assembly in 1985 when he was appointed to the House of Representatives. He was elected to the seat seven times and held numerous leadership positions. In 1999, Gardner was named National Legislator of the Year by the National Republican Legislators Association. Before his government service he was a history and government teacher. He currently is real estate agent.

He has bachelor’s and masters degrees from Bowling Green State University. He and his wife, Sandy, have three children.
