Vernon Seger, Auglaize County

Vernon Seger, president of Auglaize County Farm Bureau, hit the ground running when he became a Farm Bureau member just six years ago. He has worked on nearly every committee, including youth, information and membership. He has also been the vice president for the county.

"Being in farming, I’ve learned a lot from Farm Bureau," Seger said. "I’ve also learned how important for farmers it is to have a voice in the government. Farm Bureau is the best way I can see to getting that done."

Seger said he is excited to see a youth group re-established in the county. He feels it is important to reach the younger farmers.

"I was involved in the youth group as a kid, and now that we have one again in Auglaize County, my kids get to experience it," Seger said.

The Segers raise steers and grain on 90 acres in Minster. Seger also is self-employed as a farm machinery mechanic; he also works as a substitute bus driver. Vernon and his wife, Diana, have four children: Kerri, 18; Kyle, 16; Krystal 14; and Kody, 8.
