County Presidents Invited to Attend Special Meetings

All county presidents are invited to attend one of six Presidents' Roundtable meetings, hosted by Jack Fisher. This is the third year Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) has coordinated the meetings, which occur instead of March Cabinet meetings.

OFBF Vice President for Field Services Jeff Watkins said the meetings were started for two reasons: Ohio Farm Bureau wanted to avoid duplication and redundancy in the cabinet meetings and wanted to elevate the position of county president as the top position in the county.

The roundtables work like this: The meetings take place in the evening, usually at a restaurant, and dinner is provided. The attendance is kept small, to invite more intimate discussion and allow time for questions. Watkins said a typical meeting involves between 15 and 20 people, including the presidents, area supervisor, Fisher and OFBF Vice President for Government Affairs Keith Stimpert. Stimpert takes time to prepare the presidents for their lobbying trip to Washington D.C March 12 to 14 and Fisher goes over a few other items on the agenda. Then the meeting is open for a question and answer session.

"This gives presidents a chance to voice their opinions and talk about things they might not talk about within the context of a larger group," Watkins said.

He said all county presidents should watch their mailboxes for an invitation letter. Presidents are encouraged to attend whichever meeting best suits their schedule, even if that means attending a meeting in an area where they do not reside.
