Panel Addresses Farmland Preservation

Ohio Agriculture Director Fred L. Dailey recently appointed the state’s first Farmland Preservation Advisory Board, which met for the first time in mid-January to review documents that detail the new Clean Ohio Fund Agricultural Easement Purchase Program.

Members of the committee are: Jill K. B. Clark, American Farmland Trust; Mike Cochran, Ohio Township Association; Paul DeArman, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service; Patti Eshman, Ohio Home Builders Association; Larry Frimerman, Three Valley Conservation Trust; Paul Harrison, Seneca Regional Planning Commission; Glenn Lackey, farmer, representing southeast Ohio farmers; Larry Libby, The Ohio State University Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics; Larry Long, County Commissioners Association; Kevin O’Reilly, The Ohio State University Extension, Portage County, representing northeast Ohio farmers; Roger Rhonemus, Adams County Commissioner, representing southwest Ohio farmers; and Harold Weihl, farmer, representing northwest Ohio farmers.

Several members have close ties to Farm Bureau, including Lackey and Weihl, who are former members of the OFBF state board.
