Buckeye Region - Marion County Farm BureauFarmers’ Share Breakfast The Marion County Farm Bureau hosts a Farmers’ Share Breakfast each year. The purpose of the event is to let the public know, on average, what percent of breakfast costs goes back to the farmer. For a $6 or $7 breakfast the farmer only makes approximately 50 cents. Thus, this is the cost of the breakfast in Marion County. The breakfasts have always been well attended, and last year more than 1,000 people came to learn about agriculture. Many commodity groups including Marion County Pork Producers, Corn Growers Association, Ohio Cattlemen’s Association and Ohio Poultry Association, are invited each year. Many of the groups set up booths and distribute educational and promotional material. "It’s just a great way to show all that farmers do for the world. They put a lot of hard work into raising the food and get very little back," said Kent Fisher, OFBF’s Buckeye Area supervisor. "For 50 cents people get to come out and enjoy themselves while learning about what Ohio agriculture does for them." Steve Angel, OFBF organization director for Crawford, Richland, Marion and Morrow counties, said the breakfast is also a good way for Farm Bureau to show off some of its programs and get more people involved in the organization. Angel said the local media have also been a great help in supporting and promoting the event. This year’s breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon March 23 at Marion Catholic High School. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, toast and coffee. The breakfast is open to the public and no reservations are necessary. | |
