Buckeye Region - Morrow County Farm Bureau

Protecting Our Farms and Food

Since the Sept. 11 attacks, thoughts of agricultural terrorism have caused farmers concern. The Morrow County Farm Bureau, along with Morrow County OSU Extension, took a pro-active role in protecting farms and food supply against agricultural terrorism by holding a workshop Jan. 30.

About 40 farmers came to hear two speakers during the workshop. David White, executive director of the Ohio Livestock Coalition, spoke on biosecurity and bioterrorism. White told the group how to protect themselves from unwanted people on their farms. Joe Miller of American Farm Bureau discussed the big picture of agricultural terrorism and what each producer can do to protect America’s food supply. Miller also addressed the actions of some of the radical groups, and what their positions are.

"A lot of literature was handed out, and the audience had many questions," said Steve Angel, OFBF organization director for Crawford, Marion, Morrow and Richland counties. "I think the farmers left this workshop with a lot of information on how to protect their farms and livestock."
