Pioneer Region - Muskingum County Farm Bureau Ag Awareness Breakfast In an effort to keep agriculture alive and well in Muskingum County, farm-related agencies and organizations come together for an Ag Awareness Breakfast once a month. Muskingum County Farm Bureau members join representatives from OSU Extension, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Farm Credit Services, county commissioners and others to share ideas, concerns and details about upcoming events. These groups have been getting together for about the past 10 years, and Farm Bureau member Vicky Thomas believes it’s a good way to prolong agriculture in the future. "It helps to know what others in the county are dealing with or planning," Thomas said. "Working together will help us stay strong. All of us worked together this year to put on a very successful Farm-City Day." At the most recent breakfast, topics of discussion were hay payments, loan rates, Muskingum County Fair and Farm Bill, among others. Along with discussion, there is also a presentation or a speaker at each meeting. At the Feb. 5 meeting, Mark Mechling of OSU Extension talked to the group about the Agricultural Easement Purchase Program. He explained what the program is and who can participate in it. The breakfasts are held the first Tuesday of every month at Shoney’s in Zanesville at 8 a.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. | |
