County Presidents Deliver Messages Personally in D.C. More than 100 county presidents, spokespeople, state board members, media representatives and staff took Farm Bureau’s message directly to lawmakers in Washington, D.C., last week during the annual lobbying trip to the nation’s capital. The county presidents started their three-day visit with a trip to AFBF headquarters for an orientation on various issues from AFBF staff. A special feature of the first day’s events was a reception at the Library of Congress the evening of March 12. Activities March 13 centered on Congressional visits and a meeting with several members of the House Agriculture Committee in the Longworth House Office Building. Ohio Rep. John Boehner, R-Hamilton, hosted the agriculture committee briefing. County presidents also addressed national energy policy issues with David Garman, assistant secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Chinese trade relations were the focus the morning of March 14 when Farm Bureau members visited the China Embassy. More details about the trip will be featured in the Apr. 1 issue of Buckeye Farm News. | |
