Apply Now for Conservation Farmer Award

Nominations for the Conservation Farmer of the Year Award are being accepted at your local Soil and Water Conservation District office or your county Farm Bureau office.

The awards program began in 1984 and recognizes farm families who do an outstanding job of managing natural and human resources to meet the twin goals of production and conservation.

The program is coordinated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Soil and Water Conservation and is co-sponsored by Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and Ohio Farmer magazine.

A farm family may nominate itself or another farm family. An agricultural or conservation agency or organization also may make nominations.

Individual farmers, partnerships or family farm corporations are eligible, provided a substantial portion of their income is derived from farming. Judging is based on the nominee’s use of new and traditional conservation techniques, comprehensive management, individual initiative in getting conservation measures applied on the land and the farmer’s willingness to share conservation information, experiences and philosophy with others.

Five finalists from throughout the state will be chosen. They’ll be recognized at Farm Science Review in September, will receive a cash prize from OFBF and will be featured in Ohio Farmer.

Each county has its own deadline, so check with your FB or SWCD offices for details.
