Young Farmers Invited to Jamaican JamboreeAre you a young farmer who is a Farm Bureau member but haven't learned how you can get involved? Do you know a young farm couple who should find out the benefits of Farm Bureau membership? The annual Young Farmer Summer Conference is your ticket to opening the doors to your organization. "Jamaican Jamboree" is an opportunity for couples and singles 18 to 35 to relax, have fun and learn the basics about Farm Bureau. This year's conference takes place July 12 to 13 at Deer Creek State Park Lodge in Fayette County. Cost is $100 per person. Some county Farm Bureaus offer cost-sharing options or scholarships. "Our winter conference was hugely successful," said Jay Shawk, who is chair of the Young Farmer Committee with his wife, Erin. "We want to cover the basic information about Farm Bureau, but also to make it a lot of fun." OFBF Director of Young Leader Programs Darrell Rubel said the new format to the conference should help young farmers find out what Farm Bureau is and how their involvement can make a difference. "We spend time learning, but we also plan free time and plenty of time for socializing," he said. Contact your county office for registration information. Registration deadline is June 14. | |
