Watershed Heroes GatherInterested in having a lasting impact on water quality in your part of Ohio? Then the 7th Watershed Heroes Field Training Workshop and Conference may be just for you. This year’s conference is scheduled for June 19 to 21 in St. Peter, Minn., which is a new location from previous years’ programs. The event offers an opportunity for Farm Bureau leaders, state staff, certified crop advisers and local community leaders to interact and develop ways to address watershed water quality concerns. "2002 makes the fourth year in a row that OFBF will be sending a team of 5 to 6 individuals to the three-day Watershed Heroes Conference. We’re encouraging anyone in the counties who is interested in having a positive impact on the water quality of their watershed to get in touch with us so we can include them in our plans," according to Larry Antosch, OFBF director of environmental research. Participants will receive information on the latest pesticide and nutrient impacts on water quality and soil biology, and will find out latest research on nitrogen and phosphorus management. Many other topics will also be covered. The vision for the annual conference is that: "Within 10 years, water in local, agriculturally impacted watersheds will be fishable and swimmable. Drinking water supplies will be safe. And, farmers who work to voluntarily solve water quality problems will be more profitable, with increased production efficiency, both immediately and over the long-term."
