Bruce Johnson
Director, Department of Development

Bruce Johnson was appointed director of the Ohio Department of Development by Gov. Bob Taft in September 2001. He is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Ohio Department of Development’s 10 divisions and more than 500 employees. The department is charged with cultivating the state’s business climate by creating, retaining and expanding job opportunities for the more than 5.1 million Ohio residents who comprise the state’s workforce.

Johnson served in the Ohio Senate from April 1994 to September 2001. He served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary and Ways and Means committees and was elected president pro tempore, the second ranking member, of the Senate.

He earned his law degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus and his bachelor's in economics from Bowling Green State University.

He and his wife, Kelley, live in Columbus with their four children.
