Sen. C.J. Prentiss, D-Cleveland, is in her first term in the Ohio Senate. She is the Senate Minority Assistant Whip and serves on the Finance and Financial Institutions, Economic Development, Technology and Aerospace, Human Services and Aging subcommittee and Education committees. Her special appointments include the OhioReads Council, the Governor’s Commission on Teaching Success, the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund and the Predicate Study Steering Committee.

Prentiss is president of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus and chairs the Primary and Secondary Education Committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators.

Prentiss previously served eight years in the Ohio House representing the 8th District. She is a past member of the State Board of Education, where she served a six-year term.

She received her bachelor’s and master’s in education from Cleveland State University and a post-graduate degree from Kent State University and Western Reserve University's Advanced Management Program.
