Pioneer Region

An Amish Adventure

Outstanding volunteer efforts were recognized in the Pioneer Area with a trip to Holmes County’s Amish Country. The top membership workers in each county were rewarded with a bus tour of Amish farms and businesses.

Top membership workers in the area are Floyd Hogue, Muskingum County; Lloyd Mumaw, Wayne County; and Calvin Householder, Jefferson County.

The day of recognition began by presenting awards to the 400 volunteers at the Berlin Fellowship Church. Then the group loaded eight buses to tour Amish Country. They were treated to an Amish Wedding dinner, and then proceeded to many different farm locations. They toured a collar shop, country store, hickory rocker shop, harness shop, wheelworks, can manufacturer, deer farm, buggy works, furniture shop, blacksmith shop, horse farm and llama farm. At each location the award winners received a hands-on lecture and demonstration.

Everyone who attended received two packages of noodles made in Holmes County.

"The program would not have been possible without the cooperation and hard work between local Farm Bureau members and the Amish community," said Ken Walter, Pioneer Area supervisor. "The Farm Bureau volunteers were very appreciative of the hospitality and sincerity of the Amish hosts."
